At the request of the US authorities, the Consulate General ceased operations on March 30, 2018 ^[2] .

Seattle Consulate General of Russia

The first Russian consul general in Seattle was the diplomat and orientalist Nikolai Bogoyavlensky , who was appointed to this post in 1914. Although his powers were terminated after 1917, informally he continued to perform consular duties until the establishment of diplomatic relations between the USSR and the USA in 1933 ^[3] .

The Consulate General of the Russian Federation in Seattle was opened in December 1992 ^[4] ^[5] . It became the third consulate general of the Russian Federation in the USA (after consulates in New York and San Francisco ) and the first one opened after the collapse of the USSR . The first consul general of the Russian Federation in Seattle was George Vlaskin ^[5] .

In March 2018, in connection with the Salisbury incident , U.S. authorities announced the Consulate General of the Russian Federation in Seattle should cease operations on March 30. According to the Russian ambassador to the United States, Anatoly Antonov , consular officers will be distributed among other diplomatic missions, including the embassy in Washington , as well as consulate generals in New York and Houston ^[2] .
