GPRS core network

GPRS core network ( GPRS Core Network) is a centralized part of the GPRS subsystem, which also provides support for UMTS and 3G networks. It is an integrated part of the GSM core network .

Provides mobility management, session management and transport functions for Internet services in GPRS and UMTS networks. In addition, it provides support for additional functions, such as billing and support services for special services. Initially, it was proposed to use GPRS core networks in TDMA networks (mainly in the USA), but in practice, most of these networks were transferred to the GSM standard and similar introductions were not required.

Like GSM, GPRS is an open 3GPP standard. Most patents required to implement a GPRS network are available under RAND. Most of the standards required to implement GPRS can be downloaded from the 3GPP website.
