Helsinki Town Hall is the main administrative building of the city of Helsinki in Finland . The Town Hall is located in the Kruununhak area near the Market Square .

History
The building was built in 1833 as the Seurahuone Hotel and was an important cultural center. The hotel was designed by Karl Ludwig Engel , who also designed many buildings around Senate Square . The city acquired the building in 1901, the hotel was closed in 1913 and the building was remade for the town hall.
After the architectural competition, the town hall was reconstructed in 1965-1970 according to the design of Aarno Ruusuvuori .
Modern usage
The building houses the offices of the mayor of Helsinki and the mayor's advisers, as well as the halls of the City Council.
