Arthur Charles Valentine Wellesley, 9th Duke of Wellington (born August 19, 1945 ) is a British aristocrat , politician and businessman . The eldest son of Arthur Valerian Wellesley ( 1915 - 2014 ), 8th Duke of Wellington ( 1972 - 2014 ), and Diana Ruth McConnell ( 1922 - 2010 ), daughter of Major General Douglas Fitzgerald McConnell . Member of the House of Lords since September 16, 2015 .

In addition to the British titles, the Duke of Wellington bears the hereditary titles of the 9th Prince Waterloo ( United Kingdom of the Netherlands ) and Duke da Vitoria ( Portuguese Kingdom ) with her auxiliary titles of the Marquis de Torres Vedras and the Count de Vimeiro . These titles were received by his ancestor Wellesley, Arthur, 1st Duke of Wellington as commander in chief of the British army in Spain and Portugal and for the victory over Napoleon at Waterloo (in Belgium).
On March 10, 2010, Charles Wellesley received from his father Arthur Valerian Wellesley, 8th Duke of Wellington, the title of Duke de Ciudad Rodrigo in the Spanish Kingdom. In accordance with Spanish law, Wellington petitioned the Spanish authorities for recognition of the title of Duke de Ciudad Rodrigo and the Grand of Spain . The King of Spain, Juan Carlos , through his Minister , approved by royal decree of May 21, 2010 the succession of the Duchy of Ciudad Rodrigo to the family of Wellesley . On June 12, 2010, the official newspaper of the Spanish government, Boletín Oficial del Estado, reported this.
On December 31, 2014, after the death of his father, Charles Wellesley inherited the title of Duke of Wellington, becoming Peer of the United Kingdom .

Birth and Education
Born on August 19, 1945 in Windsor (county of Berkshire ), was educated at Eton College. He later attended Christ Church College in Oxford . He has three younger brothers and one younger sister. From birth, he held the title of Earl of Mornington , and in 1972 , when his father became the Duke of Wellington, he received the title of Marquis of Duro .
Marriage and children
On February 3, 1977, at St. Paul’s Church in Knightsbridge ( London ), he married Princess Anthony of Prussia (born April 28, 1955 ), the daughter of Prince Friedrich of Prussia (1911–1966) and Brigid Guinness (1920–1995), the daughter of Rupert Guinness, owner Guinness breweries.
The couple had five children:

Political career
Wellington was a 1974 candidate from the Conservative Party in the North Islington County Parliamentary Elections, where he won second place. In 1978 - 1979, he was a member of the Basingstoke District Council. He was later a conservative member of the European Parliament from Surrey in 1979 - 1984 and West Surrey in 1984 - 1989 .
In September 2015, the Duke of Wellington was elected to sit in the House of Lords, as a conservative in the by-elections after the resignation of Lord Luke [1] .
Charity
Wellington worked for a number of nonprofit or charitable organizations. He was a patron of British art at the Tate Gallery (1987-1990), a member of the Royal College of Art (1992-1997), chairman of the British-Spanish circle of friends (1993-1998), and trustee of the Phoenix Trust (1996-2001). In 1999, he received the Order of the British Empire for his merits in British-Spanish business relations. In 1999, he was appointed deputy lieutenant in Hampshire. In 2003, he was appointed Commissioner for the Historic Buildings and Monuments of England for four years.
On October 1, 2007, he became chairman of the board of governors of King's College London . A graduate of this college was his wife Anthony of Prussia. His ancestor Arthur Wellesley, 1st Duke of Wellington , played an important role in the creation of the college.
