Biography
Gleb went to first grade in Ufa. In 1936 - early 1937 the family left Bashkiria to Kuibyshev ; From the fifth grade he studied at the thirteenth Kuibyshev school. In 1943, he went to his father in Kuvandyk in the Orenburg region. A year later he returned to Kuibyshev. He studied in a physical circle under the supervision of a teacher Levin [3] .
In 1951 he graduated from the Faculty of Chemistry of Moscow State University [2] [4] , then graduate school there. Teaches at the Faculty of Chemistry; Head of the Laboratory of Low Temperature Chemistry, Department of Chemical Kinetics (1974–2013) [2] [4] . He teaches the course "Fundamentals of Cryochemistry" (equipment, methods and techniques; ionic, radical chain, photochemical reactions at low temperatures; reactions involving atoms and metal clusters; spontaneous processes and reactions involving complexes; reactions in frozen solutions; cryobiochemical reactions; application low temperatures in science and technology) [4] .
Family
Father - Boris Nikolaevich Sergeev (1895-1981), agronomist - breeder , livestock specialist (at one time - chief livestock specialist in Bashkiria ). Mother (1891-1981) - agronomist-breeder, worked at the Bezenchuksky experimental station, bred new varieties of wheat [3] .
Scientific activity
Starting from the third year of study, he was engaged in scientific work with Nikolai Nikolaevich Semenov [3] . The first scientific work was published in 1953 together with the head Vladimir Yakovlevich Stern in the Reports of the USSR Academy of Sciences (presented by Academician Semenov) [5] . In 1956 he defended his thesis ("Kinetics of the thermal decomposition of certain bromide alkyls"), in 1967 - his doctoral dissertation ("Chemical reactions in the condensed phase at low temperatures") [4] .
The main areas of research [2] [4] :
- chemical kinetics
- cryochemistry
- nanochemistry
- reactions of metal atoms and their clusters of nanometer sizes,
- matrix isolation
- organic reactions in low temperature co-condensates,
- reactions in liquid crystals
- organic nanoparticles
- cryomodification of drug substances.
In 1960, with a Lithuanian colleague, Denis Gervidos, he trained in England, after which they made the first chromatograph at the faculty with a flame ionization detector (1962) [6] .
He discovered rapid explosive reactions of halogenation , hydrohalogenation and nitration of olefins at the boiling point of liquid nitrogen ; found chain reactions involving frozen radicals ; established the mechanisms of molecular, ionic and radical reactions at low temperatures flowing through the intermediate formation of donor-acceptor complexes; established size effects in the chemical activity and selectivity of interactions between nanoscale and subnanoscale metal particles [2] .
Creator and organizer of domestic and international conferences on chemistry of low temperatures [2] . He is a member of the International Scientific Committee on Chemistry and Physics of Low Temperatures, the International Liquid Crystal Society , the International Society for the Study of Materials (Materials Research Society), and the Russian nanotechnological society [2] . Member of the specialized councils of Moscow State University for the defense of doctoral and master's theses, International Scientific Council on Organic Reactions in Solids (since 1988). Scientific supervisor of the inter-university project "Chemistry of Low Temperatures" of the program "Universities of Russia" [4] .
He prepared 41 candidates of sciences [6] . The author of more than 400 scientific works, including monographs, 22 copyright certificates and patents [2] [4] .
