Istvan Timar-Geng ( Hungarian. István Timár-Geng ; January 7, 1940 , Budapest - December 4, 1994 , ibid.) - Hungarian kayaker , played for the Hungarian national team in the mid-1960s and early 1970s. Silver and bronze medalist of the Summer Olympic Games in Mexico City, two-time world champion, three-time European champion, winner of many regattas of national and international importance.

Biography

Istvan Timar was born on January 7, 1940 in Budapest . He began to actively engage in rowing in early childhood, was trained in the capital's sports club "Uypesti".

The first serious success at the adult international level was in 1963, when he joined the Hungarian national team and attended the World Cup in Yugoslav Egg, where he brought two gold medals won in the standings of double and quadruple crews at a distance of 10,000 meters. These competitions, among other things, had the status of the European Championship, so Timar additionally became a two-time champion of the continent. Four years later, at the European Championship in German Duisburg, he received bronze in doubles at a thousand meters.

Thanks to a series of successful performances, he won the right to defend the honor of the country at the 1968 Summer Olympics in Mexico City - as part of a four-seater crew, which also included rowers Imre Sölöshi , Chaba Gizi and Istvan Cismadia , won a bronze medal at a distance of 1000 meters - the crew passed them in the decisive race from Norway and Romania. In addition, paired with Chaba Gitsi became the silver medalist in twos at a thousand meters, losing only to the Soviet kayak Alexander Shaparenko and Vladimir Morozov .

In 1969, at the European Championships in Moscow, Timar twice climbed the podium, won bronze in two in a thousand meters and gold in two in a thousand. The following season, he won bronze at the Copenhagen World Cup, taking third place in the four-seat kayak program at a thousand meters. A year later, at similar competitions in Yugoslav Belgrade, he took silver in fours at ten kilometers. Soon after the end of these competitions, he decided to end the career of a professional athlete, giving way to young Hungarian rowers in the national team.

He died on December 4, 1994 in Budapest.
