MSGID

MSGID (message ID) , in Fidonet - cloud , a unique identifier for the message. Allows you to track " dupes " (repeated hits of the same message on the same node) and replies to messages (when a response is received, the MSGID of the original message is copied to the REPLY response message box).

In accordance with the technical standard Fidonet FTS-0009, msgid contains a relatively unique (see below) “serial number” (8 hexadecimal digits) and the sender address in the message creation network. [1] This address is not necessarily a 4D or 5D Fidoaddress, for example, for messages that came to Fido from the Internet, this address can be a regular e-mail. The purpose of the address field in this cloud is not to identify the author (for this there is origin in the echo-mail , see FTS-0004, or INTL / FMPT Clubs in personal mail), but to make the MSGID more unique.

According to the standard, the MSGID creation algorithm must ensure the creation of unique identifiers, with MSGID repeats from the same system (sender) no earlier than three years later. [one]
