Division History
Formed by Napoleon on October 27, 1804 as the 4th Infantry Division in the camp of Saint-Omer , which was part of the Army of the Ocean Coast . At the head of the division was appointed General Suchet .
August 29, 1805 became part of the 4th Army Corps of the Great Army . October 10 transferred to the 5th corps of Marshal Lann . She took an active part in the Austrian campaign . She distinguished herself during the Ulm campaign , participated in the unsuccessful assault on Ulm on October 15. Under Austerlitz, she skillfully acted on the left flank of the French troops against the forces of Bagration .
From the first days of the Prussian campaign was at the forefront of the Great Army. The division played a key role in defeating the Prussian corps of Prince Ludwig at Saalfeld on October 10 and the forces of Prince Hohenlohe at Jena on October 14. She skillfully acted on December 26 at Pultusk against the troops of Bennigsen , and suffered heavy losses.
In the campaign of 1807, she operated on the far right flank of the French, and did not take part in active hostilities.
On October 11, 1808, together with the building, it was transferred to the Iberian Peninsula . From December 1808 to February 1809 she participated in the siege of Zaragoza. On April 5, 1809, after General Suchet led the entire 5th Corps, the commander of the division was Brigadier General Girard , who had previously led the 2nd Brigade in the division. From 1809 to 1812 - Girard Infantry Division ( fr. Division d'infanterie de Girard ). She took part in many battles, suffered huge losses during the campaign of 1811, and was disbanded by Marshal Sult on February 7, 1812 during the reorganization of the French forces in Spain . Regiments were distributed among other divisions and garrisons.
