Memories
Some time before the crash, Sawyer had an affair with a certain Jessica. In bed, she confessed his love to him. Sawyer was late for a business meeting and, asking to wait for him, took a suitcase from a shelf. Packs of money allegedly accidentally fell out of there. Jessica wondered why Sawyer was taking them to the meeting, and he said that he was going to invest 300 thousand dollars in a very profitable enterprise. Since he did not have time to collect the entire amount, the mistress offered to lend him the missing 160 thousand.
Under the guise of a business partner, Sawyer met at lunch with her husband David, without whose consent Jessica could not receive the money. To gain their trust, Sawyer invited David to take his share for the day. Further, it becomes clear that Sawyer is a fraudster, and those 140 thousand that were in the suitcase, borrowed for a while from his buddy bandit Clio. It was assumed that David would fall on the hook and lend Sawyer money, which, of course, would never be seen again. When Sawyer came home to Jessica and David to complete the deal, he saw their little son and suddenly changed his mind. It later became clear that this is how Sawyer lost his parents. Canceling the deal, he hastily left.
Events
Returning from the forest where she was picking fruit, Kate saw Sawyer coming out of the ocean naked. They flirted a little with each other, and then Sawyer noticed that Boone had noticed the book that lay in his things. Meanwhile, Jack was treating Said's wound on the shore. Said said that he was hit right after he saw Sawyer's signal rocket, and this someone clearly did not want him to detect the French distress signal, since the one who attacked him broke the transceiver.
Then Boone and Shannon went to the caves to Jack. He learned from them that Sawyer hit Boone when he demanded that they return the items stolen from them. Among them was the Shannon inhaler. She hid her asthma , and now, left without a medicine, she panicked and began to choke. After finding Sawyer, Jack demanded that he return the inhaler, but achieved nothing.
While Sun relieved an asthma attack by applying eucalyptus leaves to Shannon's neck, Said, with Jack's permission, tied Sawyer to a tree and tortured him (sticking thin sticks under his nails), saying that he had done this several times before. Promising to tell only Kate about the whereabouts of the inhaler, Sawyer demanded that she kiss him in exchange. Reluctantly, she complied with his request, and then Sawyer admitted that he did not know where the medicine was, and he found the book of Boone. Angry, Said pounced on Sawyer, a fight started, and Said accidentally stuck a knife in Sawyer’s hand, entering the artery. Jack saved Sawyer . After this incident, Said, feeling guilty for what he had done, went camping to explore the island.
In the meantime, Charlie was trying to persuade the pregnant Claire to move to the caves, where it was safer than on the beach. Friendly relations arose between them.
Waking up with a bandaged hand, Sawyer saw Kate by his couch. He forced her to read the letter , which he did not part with, so that she understood what kind of person he was. From the stamp, Kate realized that the letter was not addressed to Sawyer, but he himself wrote it for someone. From its contents it became clear that Sawyer’s parents had been ravaged by one scammer, after which his father killed his mother and shot himself. Sawyer despised himself for becoming just like that man, and tried to arouse his self-hatred in everyone else.
