Biography
Born in Leningrad in the family of the military historian N. I. Baryshnikov .
In 1982, he graduated from the Department of the History of Modern and Contemporary History of the History Department of Leningrad State University . In the 1980-1990s. worked in the Directorate of the Association of Museums of the Leningrad Region as a senior researcher, and then as the head of the department.
Scientific activity
Research interests: History of foreign policy in the 20-30s. XX century; the history of World War II , the history of the Scandinavian countries and Finland.
In 1989, V. N. Baryshnikov defended his doctoral dissertation, “Aggravation of the socio-economic situation and the development of the domestic political crisis in Finland during the Second World War,” and in 1997, his doctoral dissertation “From a Cool World to the Winter War : Eastern Policy of Finland in 1930 years ”.
Since the 1990s, he taught at the Russian State Art Academy . He is the organizer, chairman of the editorial board of the annual international conference "St. Petersburg and the countries of northern Europe" and a collection of articles on its materials.
Since 1993, he has been working at the Department of Modern and Contemporary History of the History Department of St. Petersburg State University as an assistant professor, professor (1999), and since 2003, as the head of the department.
In 1998 he was elected a full member of the Academy of Military Historical Sciences. Since 2000 V.N. Baryshnikov has been a member of the Scientific Council of the Faculty of History, and since 2008 - a member of the Scientific Council of St. Petersburg State University. Member of the dissertation council of the Russian State University. I. Kant , is a co-chair of the Center for the Study of Scandinavian Countries and Finland at the St. Petersburg Association for International Cooperation and a member of the board of the St. Petersburg Peace and Harmony Council.
The author of more than 140 scientific works published in Russia, Finland, Poland, Norway, Germany, England, USA.
