Biography
Mikhail Filippovich Korolev was born on August 27, 1894 in Yuzovka (now Donetsk ). From an early age he worked as a foundry worker in production. After the outbreak of World War I to mobilize, Korolev was drafted into the tsarist army and sent to the Southwestern Front . He fought a platoon of a horse-mountain artillery division, received the rank of non-commissioned officer, and was awarded the 4th degree St. George Cross for military merits. In 1917, Korolev joined the Bolshevik party [1] .
In the summer of 1919, Korolev went to serve in the Workers 'and Peasants' Red Army . He participated in the battles of the Civil War, being a platoon commander, assistant commander, artillery battery commander. After the war he continued his service in the Red Army. In 1926, Korolev graduated from artillery advanced training courses for command personnel , in 1934 - advanced technical training courses, after which he commanded the artillery of the cavalry division and the cavalry corps [1] .
Since June 1938, Korolev led the air defense department of the headquarters of the Kiev military district . Later, for some time, he led the Leningrad artillery improvement courses for command personnel . He participated in the battles of the Soviet-Finnish war, being the commander of the 15th Rifle Corps. On June 4, 1940, Korolev was awarded the military rank of Major General , and on the same day he was appointed head of the Air Defense Department of the Workers 'and Peasants' Red Army. He made a great contribution to improving the structure of air defense, combat training of troops, the introduction of new detection and direction finding technologies, and the training of military specialists to service them. In addition, by the efforts of Korolev, the Air Defense Administration was freed from many secondary tasks transferred to other services [1] .
Since November 1940, Korolev served as deputy head of the Main Directorate of Local Air Defense of the NKVD of the USSR, and since August 1942 he led the Local Air Defense of Moscow . In 1944, he was awarded the military rank of lieutenant general. In January 1957, Korolev retired. He died on April 5, 1973, was buried at the Vvedensky cemetery in Moscow [1] .

He was awarded two Orders of Lenin , three Orders of the Red Banner , the Order of the Red Star and a number of medals.
