Function

This gene product is highly similar to rad9 dividing yeast , a cell cycle checkpoint protein necessary for the cell cycle and repair DNA damage in response to its damage. This protein has been found to have from 3 'to 5' exonuclease activity, which can contribute to its role in detecting and repairing DNA damage. It forms a protein complex checkpoint with RAD1 and HUS1. This complex recruits a reference point of the RAD17 protein to DNA damage sites, which are considered important for triggering a signaling cascade of control points. The use of alternative polyA sites for this gene has been noted. [2]
