History

Formed on April 28, 1943 as the 98th Rifle Division (third formation) on the basis of the 162nd and 250th Rifle Brigades of the Leningrad Front .

In May 1943, the division as part of the 67th Army , from June subordinate to the Primorsky Operational Group, became part of the 43rd Rifle Corps . Since January 1944, as part of the 2nd shock army . January 19, 1944 98th Rifle Division was given the honorary name "Ropshinskaya"

February 4, 1944 was awarded the Order of the Red Banner .

On September 4, 1944, a division consisting of the 109th cc of the 2nd shock army with advanced units crosses Narva and in two places is fixed on bridgeheads in the areas of Riga and Ust-Zherdyansk . Parts of the division in the 2nd shock army somewhat expanded their captured bridgehead and went on the defensive.

The city of Narva was still in the hands of the enemy. Fights of local importance in this area lasted about three months.

From April 1944, as part of the 8th Army , from May it became part of the 122nd Rifle Corps , in August it was part of the 2nd Shock Army. She took part in the liberation of the Estonian SSR and the cleansing of its territory from German invaders. In the battles for Estonia, parts of the division fought with more than 150 kilometers, while dozens of settlements were liberated, including the cities of Elva , OtepÀÀ and, through their advancement, they helped to capture the city of Tartu .

Since September 1944, as part of the 67th Army of the 3rd Baltic Front , since November as part of the 1st Shock Army of the 2nd Baltic Front . She took part in the liberation of the Latvian SSR - Riga offensive operation , the liberation of Riga , fought in the Jukste region.

Since March 1945, as part of the 93rd Infantry Corps of the front subordination of the 1st Ukrainian Front , since April, along with the corps, the division entered the 59th Army .

Disbanded in the summer of 1945.
