Biography
The early years
Mammad Mehdiyev was born in 1911 in the city of Shemakha, Baku Province . In 1918, when he was 7 years old, his parents became victims of pogroms in Shamakhi . After this, Mamed was brought up in the family of his paternal uncle, a small craftsman. In 1928, Mehdiyev, after graduating from high school, went as a teacher to the village school of Topalgasanli village , Khanlar district . In August 1930, Mehdiyev entered the Veterinary Department of the All-Union Yerevan Veterinary Institute of Yerevan and in 1935 received a diploma of full higher education. Then, to study for postgraduate studies, Mehdiyev went to the Maxim Gorky Kazan Agricultural Institute and worked there for nine months as an assistant graduate student.
Scientific activity
In 1935, due to an acute shortage of qualified specialists, M. Mehdiyev was recalled and appointed head of the inter-district diagnostic laboratory located in the Gazakh region. After that, M. Mehdiyev headed the Protozoology Department of the North Caucasian Veterinary Research Station and specialized in the study of parasites that cause great economic harm to the agricultural industry, studied diagnostic methods for pyroplasmidosis in domestic animals [1] , and also mastered methods of combating tick-borne parasites using arsenic preparations . M. Mehdiyev is the author of many scientific and practical works and publications related to the introduction of tripoflavin as a therapeutic agent in the North Caucasus zone. In 1937, M. Mehdiyev, under the guidance of famous scientists of science N.P. Rukhlyadev and G.V. Domrachev, defended his thesis in Kazan. After that, returning to his homeland M. Mehdiyev continued his research activities at the Azerbaijan Agricultural Institute and was soon appointed head of the Department of Therapy and Pathology [2] .
World War II
With the outbreak of war, Mammad Asadovich Mehdiyev, like many other scientists, went to the front.
Post-war life
In 1946, Mammad Mehdiyev returned to his native institute from the Irkutsk unit of the Siberian Military District , where he rose to the rank of captain of the USSR Armed Forces. From 1946 to 1962, he again worked at the Azerbaijan Agricultural Institute, at the beginning the head of the department of therapy and pathology, then the dean of the faculty, and from 1954 to 1962 he was its rector [3] . Under his leadership and on his initiative, a new faculty of land reclamation and economics was opened, thorough reforms were carried out at the institute, new laboratories were built and opened. After moving to Baku, M. Mehdiyev worked at the Institute of Physiology of the Academy of Sciences of Azerbaijan until the end of his days. And here M. Mehdiyev continued his research activities becoming the head of the laboratory of physiologically active substances. In 1976-1980, under the guidance of M. Mehdiyev, the effects of radiation on laboratory-derived natural and synthetic drugs were studied [4] . As a result, research work was carried out during which the effects of radiation on organic compounds synthesized at the Institute of Chlorine and Organic Synthesis of Selenium were studied. Given the importance of the work being done, by the decision of the Presidium of the Academy of Sciences , a radiation protection department was created, which Mehdiyev was entrusted to manage. Some drugs created in the laboratory under the guidance of Mehdiyev were approved by the copyright certificate of the Scientific Committee of the Council of Ministers of the USSR .

Ratings
The works of M. Mehdiyev were highly appreciated. He was repeatedly elected as a Deputy of the Supreme Council of the Azerbaijan SSR from the Kirovabad-Bagmanlyar constituency of the city of Kirovabad [9] , he was awarded the title of Honored Scientist of the Azerbaijan SSR , twice in 1960 and 1962 M. Mehdiyev was awarded the honorary titles of the Supreme Council of the Azerbaijan SSR. In 1971, by order of the Supreme Soviet of the USSR, Mehdiyev Mammad Asad oglu was awarded the Order of the Red Banner of Labor .
