General information
In the mythological representations of the Nenets, the vertical and horizontal systems of placement of antagonistic worlds are combined. The basis of the mythological picture of the Nenets is the idea of space and chaos , as well as of space and time. The last three stages are distinguished: the birth of the gods, the emergence of the world and the appearance of man and animals. Also common is the story of the biological birth of the gods by the “underground old woman” [1] .
The vertical system of the world in the mythology of the Nenets is represented by three levels - the Upper, Middle and Lower Worlds. The Upper World is the sky inhabited by the gods , the Middle World is the Earth on which people and numerous spirits live, and the Lower World is located underground and inhabited by evil spirits [2] .
The mythological stories of the Nenets reflect the interethnic relations of the Nenets with other peoples of the North, including clashes [3] . A significant part of the mythological plots of the Nenets is occupied by myths about Sirte (Sihirt) - the mythical people who lived on Yamal before the arrival of the Nenets [4] .
The Nenets have numerous rituals associated with mythological characters - sacrifices and gifts to the gods, communication with spirits through shamans , etc. [2]
