Franz Joseph von Buss ( German: Franz Joseph Buß ; from 1863 - Ritter von Buss, German: Ritter von Buß ; 1803-1878) - professor at the University of Freiburg , one of the leaders of the ultramontane party in the Grand Duchy of Baden .

Biography

Joseph von Buss was born on March 23, 1803 in the city of Zell am Harmersbach on the territory of the modern state of Baden-Württemberg . He studied at the University of Freiburg , where he received a doctorate in philosophy, law and medicine, and in 1833 became a professor of political sciences at alma mater [2] .

Entering the Baden Diet, he first joined the Liberal Party , but soon declared himself an ardent supporter of clericalism [2] .

He provided the sisters of mercy with his own house in Baden and set up a church college there; during the famine in the winter of 1846, he helped feed thousands of starving people in the Black Forest.

Joseph von Bus is also known as an energetic opponent of Prussian hegemony [2] .

In 1874, he was elected to the German Reichstag, of which he was a member until his death, sitting in the party of the center, although in 1877, after the death of his youngest child, he practically moved away from social and political life.

In his numerous writings, he carried out the idea of ​​the need for church influence in upbringing, education, and management [2] .

Joseph von Busz died on January 31, 1878 in the city of Freiburg im Breisgau .
