Biography

Francisco Febres-Cordero-Munoz was born in Cuenca. In 1864 he entered the school of the Congregation of the Brothers of the Christian schools, or Lasallians. Having reached the age of majority and overcoming resistance from parents, he joined the Congregation of Brothers of Christian schools. He became a novice on March 24, 1868 and adopted a new name, Mikhail [1] .

He established himself as a talented teacher. In 1875, he published a new Spanish textbook, which was soon used in schools across the country. He is also the author of books on literature and linguistics, which in 1892 brought him membership in the Ecuadorian Academy of Literature, and then in the academies of Spain, France and Venezuela [2] .

In 1907 he was sent to Belgium to translate textbooks from Spanish into French for the Lasallians who were expelled from France. In 1909, he was transferred to the congregation house in Premià de Mar in Spain, in order to improve his shattered health. Here he oversaw the evacuation of his wards from a novitiate to Barcelona during the civil unrest. Shortly thereafter, he developed pneumonia and died in Premià de Mar. [3]
