Nathaniel Zichel ( German Nathaniel Sichel ; January 8, 1843 , Mainz - December 4, 1907 , Berlin ) is a German historical and portrait painter .

Biography
Born January 8, 1843 in Mainz. He studied at the Berlin Academy of Arts , where his main mentor was Julius Schrader .
At nineteen, he painted "Philip the Magnificent on the grave of his wife" and "Joseph interprets the pharaoh for his dreams." After spending two years in Rome , he painted there “Philip II arrests Don Carlos” and “Farewell to Mary Stuart with Melville” there, after which he worked in Paris for a year. After visiting various German cities to study portrait painting, Zichel settled in Paris , later in Berlin . Encyclopedia Brockhaus and Efron called the best works of Zichel "Francesca da Rimini" ( 1876 ) and "Cardinal Giza, in Rome, before Admiral Coligny received them with his head," noting in them Today, Zichel's portraits in oriental style are more known (one of the most famous is the “Almaya” ).
He died on December 4, 1907 in Berlin.
