Biography

Gennady Nikiforovich Vishnevsky was born on January 1, 1908 in the village of Belaya Dubrova (now an agro-town in the Kostyukovichsky district of the Mogilev region of Belarus ). In 1925 he graduated from an agricultural school. In 1930, Vishnevsky was called up for service in the Navy of the USSR. In 1931 he graduated from the Kronstadt Machine School, after which he served on the ships of the Baltic Fleet . In 1940, Vishnevsky graduated from the naval faculty of the V. I. Lenin Military-Political Academy and was assigned to the post of military commissar of the Ochakov sector of coastal defense of the Black Sea Fleet . In this position he met the beginning of World War II [1] .

During the defense of Odessa, Vishnevsky headed the political department of the Odessa Naval Base . After evacuation from Odessa, he continued to serve in party and political positions in the system of the Navy of the USSR. From October 1941 to April 1943 he was an inspector, senior inspector of the Main Political Administration of the Navy of the USSR. Since April 1943, Vishnevsky led the political departments of the Izhora and Tallinn sectors of coastal defense of the Navy of the USSR, then other units. He participated in the battles for East Prussia, during the battles for Königsberg he captured a German officer with an adjutant [1] .

After the war, Vishnevsky continued to serve in the Navy of the USSR. Since September 1946, he was the head of the political department - the deputy for political affairs of the head of the rear services of the Northern Fleet , the deputy head of the Political Administration of the Black Sea Fleet, the head of the political departments of the North Pacific Naval Flotilla , the Sovgavan Naval Base, and the Higher School of Coastal Artillery of the USSR Navy. In 1958 - 1959, Vishnevsky led the political department of the General Staff of the Navy of the USSR. May 25, 1959 he was awarded the military rank of Major General. Combined military service with work in the journal " Marine Collection ". In March 1969, Vishnevsky resigned. He died on July 9, 1975, was buried at the Vvedensky cemetery in Moscow [1] .

He was awarded the Order of Lenin (1955), three orders of the Red Banner (1942.1945, 1951), orders of the Patriotic War , 2nd degree (1944), the Red Star (1945) and the Badge of Honor (1963), as well as a number of medals [1 ] .

Memory

  • In May 1976, in the city of Odessa, in his honor, Military Lane was renamed General Vishnevsky Lane [2] .
