Novitsky, Franciszek

Franciszek Henrik Nowicki (January 29, 1864, Krakow - September 3, 1935, Zavoya) - Austro-Hungarian and Polish poet, representative of the Young Poland movement, mountain climber and tourist itinerary developer, political activist Social Democrat.

Born in the family of a zoologist. In the 1880s, during his studies at the University of Cracow, he was co-editor of the socialist journal Ognisko, and later became a co-founder of the Polish Social Democratic Party of Galicia ; since 1894 he taught at the gymnasium in Tarnuwa. On February 5, 1901, he presented to the Polish Tatra Society a project to create a tourist route “Orla Perć”, partially created in 1903-1907. Since 1924, retired, in 1934 he became an honorary member of the Association of Polish Writers. He published poems and short stories, released his only poetry collection - “Poezje”, which consists of two parts: “Tatry” (1891) and “Pieśni czasu” (1905), after which he left the literature. He was also engaged in translations from German (in particular, he translated Goethe ).

According to critics of the turn of the XIX — XX centuries, Novitsky, despite the small number of works written, can be considered a major poet; his work was evaluated as a return to romanticism , his ability to combine a description of the beauties of mountain nature with populist and philosophical ideas was noted. The main advantage of his poetry was called objectivity.
