Spiculimermis baicalensis (lat.) - a species of roundworms from the family Mermithidae (order Mermithida , Nematoda ). Endemic to Lake Baikal ( Russia ), found in its southern part. The features of the detection site (soil and depth) are unknown. Round worms of small sizes. They have 2 long curved spicules, 6 longitudinal chords and 6 head papillas (located symmetrically in a circle), the mouth is finite, with a small hole. Outside covered with a thin cuticle without cross fibrillation. Presumably parasites of aquatic larvae of mosquito bells ( Chironomidae ). The species was first described in 1976 by the Soviet zoologist Professor Ivan Antonovich Rubtsov and included in the previously isolated separate genus Spiculimermis Artyukhovsky, 1963 from the Mermithidae family [1] [2] [3] .
