Jones is South Carolina's largest island. Located west of the island of James, east of the island of Wadmalo and north of the island of Chiava. From the east it is washed by the Stono River. Jones Square is 216.8 km², making it the 61st largest island in the United States . The population of the island according to the 2000 census was 11,477 people, but it is growing very fast and according to 2010 numbers already has about 14,000 people.
About one third of the island is within the city of Charleston .
The island was named the first settlers in honor of the arrival of St. John in Barbados [1] .
