Biography
Yolanda was born at the end of 1218 in Dreux . She was the second child and the only daughter in the family of the dukes of Brittany, Pierre Moclerc de Dreux , the great-grandson of King Louis VI , and Alice de Tuar , daughter of Guy de Thouars and Constance of Breton . In 1221 , after the death of Alice de Thouars, the elder brother of Yolanda, 4-year-old Jean I , became the duke of Brittany, and the widowed Pierre Moklerk became the guardian of the duchy.
Before the appearance of the offspring of Brother Yolanda, he was considered to be his heir and therefore was the desired bride. In 1225, an engagement agreement was signed between 7-year-old Yolanda and 18-year-old King Henry III of England. However, the possibility of such a marriage was opposed by King Louis VIII of France, fearing that Brittany would fall under British influence. In return, Louis VIII offered to his husband Yolande his son Jean, the Count of Anjou. However, this marriage also did not take place: Jean died in 1232 at the age of 13 years.
Finally, in January 1236, the 17-year-old Yolanda was extradited as Hugo XI de Lusignan , son and heir of Hugo X de Lusignan , Count Angoulême and de La Marsh, an old ally of Pierre Moclerc. The dowry of his daughter, Pierre Moklerc gave County Pentevr , selected by him in 1214 from Henry II d'Avogur .
In 1250, Yolanda became regent of the counties of Angouleme and La Marsh, after her father-in-law and her husband, who participated in the Seventh Crusade , were killed in Egypt with a difference of one year.
Yolanda died on October 10, 1272 at Chateau de Bouleville . She was buried in the abbey of Notre Dame de Villeneuve near Nantes .
After the death of Yolanda, the county Pentevr was captured by her brother, the Duke of Breton Jean I.
