Biography

August Ferdinand is the third son of Ferdinand Albrecht I of Brunswick-Wolfenbüttel-Bevernsky and his spouse landgrafian Christina of Hesse-Eschwege . After the death of his father, he was educated at the Knight Academy Rudolf-Antoniana, founded by his uncle Anton Ulrich in Wolfenbüttel in 1687.

Returning to Wolfenbüttel, August Ferdinand was promoted to colonel in the Guards regiment of the Duke Anton Ulrich and in his composition took part in the siege of Namur in 1695 during the War for the Palatinate Inheritance . The following year, August Ferdinand assumed command of the Wolfenbüttel units of the imperial army , which fought against the French.

In the years 1696-1677 Augustus Ferdinand traveled to Italy with his younger brother Ferdinand Albrecht .

After the Peace of Rijswijk, Avgust Ferdinand joined the imperial army and took part in hostilities under the command of Eugene of Savoy in Hungary against the Turks. During the War of the Spanish Succession, August Ferdinand commanded the rank of Major General in the Lower Saxon District contingent under the command of Margrave Ludwig of Baden and captured the city of Friedberg and the castle in it.

He died in 1704 in a battle against the French near Donauwörth . Buried in Brunswick Cathedral .
