Georgy Pavlovich Khomizuri (born February 9, 1942 , Baku ) is a Russian and Armenian specialist in the field of the history of geology and civil history . Doctor of Geological and Mineralogical Sciences, majoring in the History of Science and Technology (2000). Known as the author of historical and journalistic works, former samizdatovets and political prisoner Dubravlag .

Biography
Born on February 9, 1942 and in the city of Baku in the family of oil and gas geologist Pavel Iovich ( June 25 ( July 8 ) 1903 - April 14, 1968) [1] , whose brother Nikolai (1907-1991) was awarded the Stalin Prize (1951) for his discovery and industrial development of the cassiterite deposit in Mongolia . His grandfather, Job Khomizuri (1880-1918) was a blacksmith in the village of Mejrishevi , Gori district .
His childhood passed in the north of Sakhalin Island , where his father worked in the Dalnefterazvedka Trust.
Education
In 1953 he graduated from elementary school in the city of Okha on Sakhalin.
In 1959 he graduated from high school number 644 in Moscow .
In 1960-1965 he studied at the Moscow Petroleum Institute at the Geological Exploration Department (later it was renamed the Faculty of Gas-Oil Geology, Geophysics and Geochemistry). During his studies, he was in practice at the Ukhta Territorial Geological Administration (1962), at the Laboratory of sedimentary minerals of the Academy of Sciences of the USSR (1963), as well as in Central and Western Kazakhstan and Altai (the Usinsk manganese deposit). Upon graduation, he received a specialty "Geology and exploration of oil and gas fields" [2] .
In 1968-1971 he studied at the graduate school of the Sector of the History of Geological and Geographical Sciences of the Institute of the History of Natural Science and Technology (IIET) of the USSR Academy of Sciences . In June 1972 he defended his thesis [3] .
Geology
For a year, he worked as a preparation agent in the luminescent-bituminological laboratory of the All-Union Scientific Research Geological Exploration Oil Institute ( VNIGNI ).
In 1966, after the Institute, he returned to work at VNIGNI as a geologist in the industrial stocks sector.
Since 1973, he began working at the Geological Institute (GIN) of the USSR Academy of Sciences. First, a senior laboratory assistant at the Upper Precambrian Stratigraphy department, then a junior research fellow at the Laboratory of the History of Geology (1973-1979). At the same time he was a freelance editor of the Nauka Publishing House (1973-1979), scientific secretary of the Soviet Organizing Committee for the Soviet-German symposium on the history of Soviet-German contacts and the field of geology (1974-1975)
In 1979, he moved to the city of Yerevan , where he began to work as a senior researcher at the Laboratory of Experimental Geology of the Institute of Geological Sciences (IGN) of the Academy of Sciences of the ArmSSR.
- 1987-1992 - Senior Researcher, Laboratory of Experimental Geology, Institute of Applied Mathematics, Academy of Sciences of the Arm of the USSR (Yerevan)
- 1992-1994 - Head of the Publishing Department of the Center for Work with the Population of the National Seismic Protection Service (NSSZ) of Armenia.
History of Geology
In 1971-1972 he worked as a senior scientific and technical employee of the Sector of the History of Geological and Geographical Sciences of the Institute of Geology and Geology of the USSR Academy of Sciences . In 1972 he defended a dissertation there on the topic "The concept of" geosyncline "in the works of domestic geologists (Historical Analysis)" for the degree of candidate of geological and mineralogical sciences (majoring in "History of Science and Technology").
In 1989-1992 he was the head of the group of the Commission for Geological Research of the USSR (KOGI) at the Institute of Geological Sciences of the Academy of Sciences of the Armenian SSR.
In 2001-2015, he worked as a leading researcher in the Department of the History of Geology of the State Geological Museum named after V.I. Vernadsky RAS . He worked with documents on the history of natural sciences, geology and mining. He composed scientific biographies and bibliographies of geologists. He is known as the author of 14 articles on the history of geology in the third edition of the Great Soviet Encyclopedia , and 141 articles in the Great Russian Encyclopedia (2005-2015) [4] .
In 2015, he worked at the GIN RAS .
Journalism
In 1961, the first article by G.P. Khomizuri [5] was published in the institute newspaper "For the Oil Workers Cadres". Later, he worked as a member of the editorial board and deputy chief editor of this newspaper (1963-1964).
1994-1996 - chief correspondent of the independent news agency of Armenia “Noyan Tapan”.
Civil History of the USSR
From childhood, he was interested in the history of the USSR and collected materials on this topic.
Since 1972, he actively reprinted on a typewriter and distributed "anti-Soviet literature." Such as the Chronicle of Current Events , the Universal Declaration of Human Rights , other human rights documents and works of authors:

According to the estimates of G.P. Khomizuri, over 10 years he printed and distributed (including his own research under the pseudonym Ernest Garayev) more than 30 thousand pages [6] .
On February 9, 1982, G.P. Khomizuri celebrated his fortieth birthday in Yerevan, where he posted a comic poster: “Better 40 times a year than once 40 years.” The joke “succeeded”, on November 10, 1982, the arrest was followed on charges of “ anti-Soviet agitation and propaganda, ” was held in the KGB Yerevan detention center.
In 1983, he was sentenced to 6 years of forced labor in a maximum security colony and 3 years of exile. Under Article 65, Part I of the Criminal Code of the ArmSSR (which corresponded to Article 70, and previously Article 58 of the Criminal Code of the RSFSR ) - “Production, storage and distribution of anti-Soviet literature with the aim of undermining and weakening Soviet power” .
On June 22, 1983, a verdict took place in Yerevan, in which it was noted [7] :
In order to weaken and undermine Soviet power, the defendant was engaged in anti-Soviet agitation and propaganda — he produced, stored, and distributed literature containing slanderous fabrications defaming the Soviet state and social system.
Witnesses in the case: Kurenkov S.A. , Legler V.A. , Grigoryan O.A., Akopyan L.G., who, in the materials of the Cause, "showed" what they received from the "defendant" "not officially published literature , including anti-Soviet content.
Separately, in the "Case" it is indicated that:
Khomizuri at the same time testified that “for moral reasons” he refuses to name other persons from whom he acquired or handed over the mentioned literature in Moscow.
He spent the years 1983-1987 in a colony in Mordovia ( Dubravlag ; LC 385 3/5). During the time of perestroika , he was released (together with 140 other political prisoners of the USSR) by decree of the Presidium of the Supreme Soviet of the USSR of February 10, 1987 [8] . On May 28, 1990, G.P. Khomizuri was rehabilitated [9] , and the decision stated:
Questions of criticism of Stalinism ... today this literature does not pose any danger, cannot have dangerous consequences. As for the criticism of the theory of socialism, it is superficial and concerns mainly the distortions of socialism after the Leninist period. Literature found in the convict is no longer forbidden.
- In 1987-1988 he was the editor of the Russian texts of the Izvestia of the Armenian Subcommittee of the Interethnic Committee for the Protection of Political Prisoners.
- In 1996-2001, he worked as a history and geography teacher in grades 5-6 at the Non-governmental educational institution Yakimanka in Moscow.
Since the beginning of the 2000s, G.P. Khomizuri devoted all his free time to developing the theme of repressions against Soviet geologists and mining specialists. In 2008, he published the book Terror Against Geologists in the USSR. Vol. 1 (1917-1936) ” [10] .
