Geography and geology

The coordinates of the crater - [1] . Beag Crater is the smallest impact crater on Titan (in April 2015), its diameter is 26.9 km . In the north and northeast of the crater are twodark areas - Shangri-La and Ching-tu, respectively. The crater is located inside the Hubal strip , north of it are the strip of Perkunas .

To date, the Cassini spacecraft, located in the orbit of Saturn, is exploring the surface of Titan when it approaches it, thanks to this it was possible to confirm the presence of ten large craters on its surface (as of April 2015).

The dense atmosphere of Titanium from nitrogen prevents the formation of a crater with a diameter of less than 20 km, because a meteorite during a fall manages to burn out in the atmosphere without reaching the surface. In 2007, it was announced that over the next seven years, Cassini will radar the surface of the Titan, and expressed hope for the discovery of new craters in connection with the mapping of about 50% of its surface [2] .

Eponym

The crater is named after Beag - the Irish goddess of water, education and knowledge [1] . This name was approved by the International Astronomical Union in 2015 [1] .
