Biography
In 1944 he graduated from Cairo University with a bachelor’s degree in commerce, a master of commerce (1945), and defended his thesis in “Commerce” at the University of Birmingham in Great Britain (1951).
Actively engaged in research and teaching activities:
- 1951-1952 - assistant
- 1952-1957 - Lecturer, Department of Commerce, Cairo University,
- 1957-1962 - assistant professor,
- 1962-1966 - Professor, Faculty of Commerce, Cairo University,
- 1966-1968 - Dean of the Department of Commerce at Ain Shams University.
Subsequently, he held a number of senior positions in the government of the country:
- 1968-1972 - Minister of Budget
- 1973-1974 - Minister of Finance and Foreign Trade,
- 1974 - Deputy Prime Minister, Minister of Finance, Economics and Foreign Trade,
- 1974-1975 - Prime Minister of Egypt.
In 2011, he chaired the National Dialogue Commission.
He was elected a member of many scientific and entrepreneurial councils and associations.
