Chinamu puna

Chinamu puna [1] , or mountain steppe chinamu [2] ( lat. Tinamotis pentlandii ) - a species of bird family Tinamu ( Tinamidae ). A specific Latin name is given in honor of the Irish naturalist Joseph Barclay Pentland (1797-1873) [3] .

The bird lives in alpine meadows at an altitude of 4000–4700 meters above sea level. The species is common in Peru, Bolivia, in the north of Chile and Argentina [4] .

Body length reaches 41 cm. Sexual dimorphism is not observed. Coloring is brown with white spots. The chest is gray, the belly is red. The head is white with red stripes. Rainbow and beak are brown. Legs are light gray, spur is absent [5] [6] .
