Career

Herrera began his career at Boca Juniors in Argentina's Premier League . The team had a lot of competition for a base among the strikers, in addition to Herrera, the club was played by Martin Palermo , Guillermo Barros Skelotto , Marcelo Delgado , Christian Jimenez and Alfredo David Moreno . Herrera made his debut on March 28, 1999, replacing Christian Jimenez in the match against Gimnasia and Esgrim , which ended in a 1-1 draw. Then he played for the reserve and returned to the first team on March 4, 2001 in the match against Racing Avellaneda , which Boka lost with a score of 2: 1. It was with Boka that he won his two trophies at the club level. He was a member of the team that won Clausur 1999 , and in 2001, he helped Boke win the Libertadores Cup . In 2001, Herrera, together with the Argentinean youth team, won the world championship ; he scored three goals in the tournament. However, at the club level, the situation was worse; upon arrival to the club, Naohiro Takahara Herrera began to fall even less into the base.

At the end of the 2001 season, Herrera left Boca and went on loan to Taliers Cordoba . But after only one season with the club, he moved to Italy to play for Messina from Serie B. However, here he could not gain a foothold, after seven matches in the club, the player switched to Lucchese from Series C1 .

He returned to Argentina in the second half of 2004, signing a contract with Chacarita Juniors , which at that time was headed by Ernesto Mastrangelo . Herrera helped the club return to the top division. After the changes in the coaching staff, the team managed to avoid relegation after defeating Defensores de Belgrano . Herrera scored six goals and was one of the club's brightest players. In mid-2005, he returned to Europe to play for the Greek Iraklis . In his first season, he scored seven goals in 29 games.
