Geography, climate

The American Canyon is located in the southern part of the county. It is bounded by the Napa River from the west, it borders on the city of Vallejo from the south, and from the east the foot of a small mountain range descends to it with the highest point of 339 meters above sea level. Middleton is an unincorporated commune just north of the American Canyon, and the nearest is also located there. The motorway passes through the city, and the I-80 motorway [4] is just south-east of the city.
The area of ​​the city is 12.55 km², of which 0.02 km² (0.17%) are open water areas.

The American Canyon is located in the Mediterranean climate zone ( Csb according to Köppen ). The warmest month of the year is August, with an average temperature of 18.4 ° C, the coldest is December (7.4 ° C). History

In 1855, the first settlers arrived at the place of the future city; they founded a settlement here, which unofficially called Napa Junction . In 1870, the village legally departed from Solano County to Napa County . In the years 1900-1903, a cement plant was built nearby, its owner began to build houses for his employees. In 1923, the name Napa Junction for the settlement was legalized. In 1948, the unincorporated McKnight Acres territory became part of the town, and in 1952 another, Rancho Del Mar. In 1954, its own fire department was launched. The following year, the first application for the status of a city was submitted, but it was rejected. In 1962, a second application followed, but it was also rejected.

On January 1, 1992 [6], the settlement on the third attempt was incorporated on the status of “city” ( city ). In 1994, the Chamber of Commerce started operating in the American Canyon.

In 2010, the first high school was opened in the city.
