About the album
The album was recorded as a sextet, including electrified instruments, for two studio days on August 22, 1969 and January 9, 1970, with the trumpeters and organists replacing each other on different days. Most of the compositions are performed in dance rhythms and in style are close to soul-jazz / jazz-funk. The exception is the ballad " Over The Rainbow ".
Reviews
According to Allmusic , “ Everything I Play is Funky is one of the best examples of the commercially available period of Lou Donaldson, which fell at the end of the 1960s - the beginning of the 1970s. And, which is typical for this style, the groove (rather than inventive improvisations) is a noticeable feature of the album ” [2] .
Charts
The album reached 11th place on the Billboard 's Best Selling Jazz LPs chart [3] .
