A number of medieval sources indicate that he was born in 1397, but this date is incompatible with the age of receiving his degrees, so modern experts consider the most likely year of his birth to be 1414 (the same year is indicated by Heinrich Rüting). He began to receive higher education in his native Strasbourg, in 1433 he moved to Vienna , where in 1435 he received a bachelor of arts degree from a local university, and a master's degree in 1437.

After completing his studies, he joined the Order of the Cartesians and on September 6, 1440, he became a hermit monk. Then he was rector of monasteries in the Austrian lands: from 1447 to 1451 in Geyrkhay and from 1451 to 1458 in Gaming, where he contributed to the expansion of the monastery's brethren. In 1458 he lived for some time in Strasbourg, then he went to the monastery in Pleterzhe, being his rector from 1462 to 1467, after which he returned to Geyra, where he served as rector of the monastery for 23 years. In 1490 he returned to Gaming and remained there as abbot until the end of his life.

Almost all of his writings (more than 30 in total) relate to monasticism, especially Cartesian, and are mystical in color. Almost all of his works have never been published and have been preserved in the form of manuscripts in Central European libraries. The processing and publication of a number of his writings (for example, “Tractatus de mystica theologia”) began only in the 20th century.
