Himantura uarnacoides

Himantura uarnacoides (lat.) Is a species of the genus of stingrays -hemanturs from the family of the caudate - tailed squad of the caudate-like superorder of rays . They live in the tropical waters of the eastern Indian and western Pacific . They are found at a depth of 30 m. The maximum recorded width of the disk is 119 cm. The pectoral fins of these slopes fuse with the head, forming a diamond-shaped disk. The snout is slightly elongated and pointed. The tail is longer than the disk. Dermal carinae absent.

Taxonomy and Phylogenesis

The species was first scientifically described in 1852 as Trygon uarnacoides [3] . The species epithet is due to its similarity to the ringed tail ( Himantura uarnak ). This species is often confused with H. lobistoma , H. hortlei and H. pastinacoides . The younger synonym is Himantura bleekeri [2] .

Habitat and habitat

Himantura uarnacoides live in the eastern Indian Ocean and in the central western Pacific Ocean from the coast of India to the waters that wash Java and Indonesia . These slopes are found at a depth of 30 m. They enter the estuary of the rivers on Sabah . One individual was caught in a salt lake near the mouth of the Kinabatangan River [2] .

Description

The pectoral fins of these stingrays fuse with the head, forming a diamond-shaped disk. The triangular snout forms an obtuse angle, its pointed elongated tip protrudes beyond the edges of the disk. Behind the eyes are sprays . On the ventral surface of the disk there are 5 pairs of gill slits, mouth and nostrils. Between the nostrils lies a flap of skin with a fringed lower edge. Small blunted teeth are staggered and form a flat surface. The whip-shaped tail exceeds the length of the disc. There are no skin folds on the caudal peduncle. On the dorsal surface in the central part of the caudal peduncle there is a thin spike connected by ducts to the poisonous gland. The maximum recorded disk width is 119 cm, and the total length is 300 cm [3] [2] .

Biology

Like other caudate-tailed Himantura uarnacoides belongs to ovoviviparous fish. Embryos develop in the womb, feeding on the yolk and histotroph. The disk width of newborns is about 24.4 cm. In males, puberty occurs when a disk width of 76 cm is reached [2] [1] . On these slopes, monogenes and cestodes parasitize.

Human Interaction

Himantura uarnacoides are the target fishing target. They are mined using bottom trawls, seines and gillnets. The meat is used in food fresh and salty. In addition, cartilage and skin are appreciated. In Thailand , purses, belts, bags, shoes, etc. are sewn from the skin of these stingrays. The species suffers from environmental pollution. The International Union for Conservation of Nature has assigned this species the status of conservation β€œVulnerable” [2] .
