Biography
Representative of the Polish noble family of the Myszkowski coat of arms " Yastrzhembek ". The son of the royal captain Jan Myszkowski from Pshecishuv. Brother - Burggrave of Krakow , headman of Auschwitz and Zatorsky Zygmund Myshkovsky (d. 1578 ).
He studied at the Krakow Academy since 1527 with the financial support of the Bishop of Krakow, Peter Tomitsky . He received further education in Padua (after 1535 ) and Rome ( 1542 ). In 1544 he was appointed canon of Krakow and Gnieznensky . He accumulated a tremendous fortune and created a clan ordination from the Pinczow estate, which, after the suppression of the Myszkowski clan, passed through the female line into the hands of the Velepolsk clan.
Peter Myszkowski served as secretary under the Polish king Sigismund II Augustus, and in 1559 he was appointed crown chancellor . In 1567 he received the rank of bishop of Plotsky , and since 1577 - the bishop of Krakow .
He participated in the signing of the Union of Lublin between the Kingdom of Poland and the Grand Duchy of Lithuania in 1569 . In 1573, he supported the candidacy of the French prince Heinrich of Anjou for the Polish throne at the electoral parliament.
As bishop of Cracow, Peter Myszkowski advocated the publication of anti-Arian edicts. In 1580, he convened a diocesan synod . Peter Myszkowski was buried in the chapel of St. Dominica in the Basilica of the Holy Trinity in Krakow . This chapel was a work of the Italian architect Santi Gucci and became the mausoleum of the Myszkowski family .
In 1575, at the Elective Diet | Elective Diet, he supported the candidacy of the German Emperor Maximilian II of Habsburg for the Polish royal throne.
