Biography
Born in Zerben in Livonia (modern Zerbene in Latvia ) in 1802. His father, originally from Saxony , was a super-quartermaster of the Wolmar District, died in 1804. Mother and children moved to Staraya Rusa , where her relatives lived [1] .
In 1809 he entered the First Cadet Corps [2] . In 1821 he graduated from it and was released as an ensign in the 3rd Grenadier Artillery Brigade.
In 1822 he was transferred to the retinue of His Majesty, on the quartermaster part.
In the years 1830-1831 in the rank of headquarters captain of the General Staff, he went on a campaign against the Polish rebels and took an active part in the affairs of the Polish campaign of 1831 .
In 1839, he participated in an expedition in South Dagestan and was in business at the village of Tsukul and at the seizure of the main points of the Adzhiakhur position by attack.
In 1840 he received command of the Kura Infantry Regiment . In the expedition of 1840, Freytag joined the detachment of Lieutenant General Galafeev and with him on June 30 participated in the movement on the left bank of the Sunzha River and in the destruction of many villages, and on July 11 he participated in the bloody battle on Valerik .
In 1841, Freytag with the Kura Regiment was on the expedition of Adjutant General Grabbe , assembled at Sudden, and on June 27 , in a skirmish near the village of Aldy, he was wounded by a bullet in the neck, but did not leave the ranks until the end of the battle.
In 1842, Freytagu was assigned a small separate detachment to protect the Highlanders of the Kumyk Plain from invasion for 400 versts. At the end of the same year, he was appointed head of the left flank of the Caucasian line .
In November 1843, Freytag with a detachment of 1,400 Cossacks, 4 infantry battalions and 16 guns, came out against the Highlanders and stopped Shamil’s army near the village of Kazanichi.
In 1845, he saved the detachment Vorontsov from the final destruction in an unsuccessful for the Russian expedition to Dargo .
Participating in the expeditions of 1847 and 1849, Freytag freed from the Highlanders the road from the fortification of Vozdvizhensky to the fortification of Achkha.
In 1848, Freytag was appointed Quartermaster General of the Army in 1849 , speaking in Hungary, and here he participated in the battles of Weizen and Debrecen .
In 1849, he returned to Russia, but, having become ill, went abroad for treatment.
Died September 27, 1851 .
