TGM12 is an improved modification of the TGM6 A diesel locomotive, it differs from it in the improved assembly layout, the use of UGP750 / 1200PR gearless dual-transformer hydraulic transmission with an integrated hydraulic drive of the compressor drive, trolleys with jawless axle boxes, the possibility of installing a magnetic rail brake, and the use of outrigged wheels. The maximum speed during shunting operation is 40 km / h. The minimum radius of passable curves is 40 m.

Design Features
The diesel locomotive provides for the use of automatic control systems of the power plant in order to ensure the highest value of traction when starting and accelerating, a given speed, economical mode of operation of the diesel engine.
The brake system of the locomotive is equipped with traction control and anti-union devices, brake cylinders with automatic adjustable rod output. An installation for drying compressed air is provided in the air system of the locomotive.
Grease lubricators are installed on the wheelsets of the locomotive.
It is envisaged to ensure the operation of the locomotive cooling system at an ambient temperature of up to −60 ° C, as well as the possibility of heating the water and oil systems of the diesel engine from a constant power source.
The locomotive uses a remote device to measure the fuel level and provides level-indicating devices for water and diesel oil.
