Sergei Petrovich Popov ( 1921 - 1975 ) - Rear Admiral of the Navy of the USSR , participant in the Great Patriotic War , laureate of the Lenin and State Prizes.

Biography
Sergei Petrovich Popov was born on June 18, 1921 in the city of Morshansk (now the Tambov Region ). In 1942 he graduated from the Leningrad Naval College named after M.V. Frunze and was sent to the front of the Great Patriotic War, commanded a torpedo boat of the Black Sea Fleet . After the war, Popov continued to serve in the Soviet Navy [1] .
Since 1952, Popov served in KB-11 in the city of Arzamas-16 (now the Russian Federal Nuclear Center - the All-Russian Research Institute of Experimental Physics in the city of Sarov, Nizhny Novgorod Region ). He took part in the development of nuclear charges and their placement in missile systems. He has gone from a regular engineer to deputy chief designer of KB-11. In 1961, for the development of warheads for the R-7A rocket, Popov, among other development participants, received the Lenin Prize [1] .
From August 1963 until his death, Popov headed the KB-20 (later - the Design Bureau of automotive equipment) in the city of Mytishchi, Moscow Region . With his direct participation, technological devices for the nuclear weapons and nuclear industry of the USSR were developed. At the initiative of Popov, a family of unified multi-purpose machines for ballistic missiles was developed [1] .
He died suddenly on June 26, 1975, and was buried at the Vvedensky cemetery in Moscow [1] .
In 1975, Popov, among his other employees, was posthumously awarded the USSR State Prize. Popov was also awarded the Orders of Lenin , the October Revolution , World War 1 degree, three orders of the Red Star and a number of medals [1] .
