Obuh - the blunt end of a blade or ax , opposite the blade . In edged weapons, butts were usually used to fasten a pole ( town hall ). Holes were drilled in it (usually not less than three) into which nails- rivets were driven in. Sometimes, instead of a blade, an additional weapon was located. So, hooks usually cast on halberds . Sometimes a slander and a coinage were combined on one pole to balance and enhance the functionality of the weapon.
