Gustav Adolph Oldekop ( est. Gustav Adolf von Oldekop ; November 21 (December 2), 1755, Haapsalu - April 26 (May 8), 1838, Dorpat ) - a Russian Estonian priest, writer, poet and journalist. Sometimes called the progenitor of Estonian journalism.

Biography
By nationality was a Baltic German , born in the family of the director of the gymnasium. He studied at the military-cathedral school in Tallinn , from 1774 to 1780 he studied theology at the University of Halle (he entered on September 12, 1774, graduated with the degree of candidate of theology). On December 19, 1781, he was ordained, from 1781 to 1820 he was a pastor in Põlva , and later became a priest in the Võru County . He married in 1782, after the death of his wife in 1809, was in a relationship with his housekeeper, who took care of his children. In 1820, he left pastoral ministry to marry her, and moved to Dorpat, where he lived until the end of his life.
He was a supporter of the spread of the Estonian language and increase the well-being of the Estonian peasants. In 1796–1797, he compiled the first calendar in Estonian. In 1819, the Law on the Liberation of the Livonian Peasants translated the Võru dialect ; He wrote a number of poems in the same language, mainly for religious and educational purposes (for performance in school church choirs). Together with Johann Philip von Roth, he was one of the three editors of the first weekly Estonian-language newspaper (from March to December 1806, the 41st edition was published), placing many songs in it. Then he worked in the newspaper’s editorial office in Estonian, Kulutamisse Lehte. Put articles in “Rosenplänters Beiträge zuz gen. Kenntniss d. estl. Sprache ”and“ Generalbericht der Dorpatschen Abtheilung der russischen Bibel-Gesellschaft ”.
