Possible Cardinals
According to Encyclopaedia Britannica , in 1495 , Pope Alexander VI tried to bribe the Dominican reformer Girolamo Savonarola with a red hat , who preached against the pontiff in Florence , but the monk refused, saying: “ No, I have a hat, but this is a martyr's hat, will turn red from my own blood . " May 12, 1497, he was excommunicated. Savonarola was burned at the stake on May 23, 1498 in Piazza Signoria in Florence.
Some sources indicate that there were three “secret” creations of Pope Alexander VI: Johann, ambassador of the Duke of Saxony to the Holy See; Pietro Siera, Venetian, Apostolic Protonotary, and Francois Busleyden, Archbishop of Besancon , France. [one]
