He studied philosophy and medicine at the University of Leipzig , comparative linguistics in Berlin , history and political economy in Heidelberg . In Germany, he began his career as a journalist. Returning to Hungary in 1870 , he edited the newspaper Temesvarer Zeitung in Temeshwar . In 1877 he moved to Budapest, where he became one of the leading employees of Pester Lloyd and the Neue Pester Journal.

From his critical articles in the newspaper Pester Lloyd, the following books were later compiled: Philosophische Briefe an eine Frau ( 1873 ); Strategie der Liebe (3rd ed. 1884 ); Die Bibel der Natur (4th ed. 1880 ); "Dichtkunst des Aristoteles" ( 1876 ). In addition, Silberstein wrote a biography of Rudolf Gottschall ( 1868 ), translated into German a number of Hungarian writers ( Yokai , Miksat , etc.).
