Biography
The son of a watchmaker. From 1906 to 1909 he studied at the naval school. Until 1914 he served as an officer in the Imperial Navy of Germany. Member of the First World War. The commander of a torpedo boat, for some time commanded a detachment of boats in Flanders.
After graduating from a military career, he studied metallurgy and analytical chemistry in Stuttgart .
From 1919 to 1936 he worked at the Schwarzwald AG enterprise, in 1923-1936 - the head of Schwarzwälder Metallhandel AG. He was a member of the board of directors of Gebr. Junghans AG, Schramberg (1927-1931).
In 1927, Siegfried Junghans developed the technology of continuous casting of non-ferrous metals. At the industrial exhibition in the same year, he presented his technology for the continuous casting of non-ferrous metals using the so-called “carousel”. Subsequently, the "carousel" was built at once on several technological stages: at the copper smelting, anode, cobalt and nickel industries of the world's metallurgical plants, including in the USSR ( Norilsk ).
In 1943, he invented a movable mold for casting billets .
