Mask is a village in Spain in the municipality of Buenavista del Norte in the west of Tenerife . The village is located in the mountains in the upper part of the gorge of the same name Mask at an altitude of about 600 meters, 11 kilometers from the municipal center. The village is constantly inhabited by about 100 inhabitants. One of the most visited places in Tenerife. The mask is interesting for its preserved atmosphere of the old Canary village, as well as the surrounding scenery around the village. Until the 60s of the twentieth century, it was possible to get to the Mask only by mountain trails, the village lacked electricity and modern amenities. Only after the opening of the road from the towns of Buenavista del Norte to Santiago del Teide did the Mask become accessible to people. Currently, the main occupation of the villagers is agriculture and the service of tourists making hiking in the Maska Gorge. There are several restaurants and tourist shops in the village. On weekends, a museum is open in the village, which presents household items from previous generations of the village residents and the history of tourist routes along the gorge.

Gorge Mask
Mask Gorge - one of the deepest in Tenerife. Its maximum depth is about 1300 meters. From the village of Mask to the ocean runs a popular tourist route with a total length of about 6 kilometers. As a rule, tourists come to the village of Mask by taxi, bus or car and go down the gorge from the village to the ocean, where there is a small marina from which tourist ships take them to the resort of Los Gigantes. The descent time takes about 3 hours, the climb about 4 hours for the average tourist. The route, according to the difficulty of passing, the surrounding landscapes and the methods of passing and delivering tourists (car - foot descent - ship) resembles the Samaria Gorge in Crete . Now the gorge is closed for reconstruction. Descent on it is impossible. [1] [2]
