Cantagallina, Remigio

Remigio Cantagallina (c. 1582-1656) - Italian baroque engraver.

Born in Sansepolcro , Arezzo . He is best known as the author of engravings of landscapes and paintings on religious subjects, probably inspired by the works of Paul Bril, as well as his teachers Giulio Parigi and Jacopo Ligozzi. In the years 1612-1613 he traveled through the Netherlands , the Southern Netherlands and France, painting houses and urban views and depicting in the foreground their inhabitants; many of his engravings are dedicated to Brussels and Siena , special attention is paid to holidays and peasant life. Subsequently, he had many students.

His brush belongs to The Last Supper (1604) in the church of San Bartolomeo (currently in the city museum) in Sansepolcro. He also performed many engravings of landscapes, theatrical scenery, triumphal trips. The most famous works: “Morte di S. Francesco” (1605), a series of prints “Palazzo della Fame” (1608), “Fiera dell'Impruneta” (1615), “Veduta di Badia Prataglia” (1616), “Paesaggio con due viandanti "(1635)," Cascinale "(1641).
