Club career

Mathis is a graduate of Auxerre Club. In the team, he spent six seasons in Ligue 1 and helped her win the French Cup twice. In 2003, Mathis was recognized as the best young player of the year in France.

In the summer of 2007, Lionel moved to Sochaux . On September 1, in a match against Kan , he made his debut for a new team ^[1] .

Mathis did not always make it into the squad, so at the end of the season he was leased to Guingamp . On August 29, in a duel against the Sedan , he made his debut in League 2 ^[2] . On February 6, 2009, in the match against Bastia , Lionel scored his first goal for the Guingamp ^[3] . At the end of the season, the club management bought back the Matis transfer. In 2009, he helped the team win the national cup. Lionel was elected captain and in 2013 brought Guingamp to the elite, and a year later became the owner of the French Cup again. In 2017, Mathis completed his professional career.

International Career

In 2000, Mathis, as part of the youth national team of France, won the European Youth Championship, and two years later became the finalist of the European Youth Championship .
