In 1924, Franz drove the first Tour de France in his career. He won two victories in the stages and became the second in the overall standings, losing a little over 35 minutes to Ottavio Bottekier . In 1925 and 1926 , the Luxembourger won four victories at the stages of the "Big Loop", but in the overall standings he became fourth and second respectively.
In 1927, Franz became the winner of the Tour de France . The 1928 Tour de France became the complete benefit of Nicolas Franz. He won the first stage, immediately taking the lead in the overall standings and a yellow T-shirt.
