History

At the beginning of the Han Empire, Jixian (汲县) County was created, and these lands became part of it. In 112 BC e. Emperor Wu Di sent General Luo Bode to suppress the uprising in Nanyue , and the next year he went to these places to meet him, returning with victory. Liu Bode delivered the head of the rebel Liu Jia, and Hojia County (“capture Jia”) was created in these places to mark the victorious completion of the campaign. Under the Western Jin Empire, the city of Xinle (新 乐 城) was founded in 370, which housed the county authorities

Under the Empire of Northern Qi, Gongxian County (共 县) was disbanded in 556, and the county authorities moved to its former administrative center. Under the Sui Empire, Suu County (修武 郡) was disbanded in 584, and the county authorities moved to the county’s former administrative center. In 586, a new Xinxiang (新乡 ц) county was formed in the adjacent territories of Jixian and Hojia counties, whose authorities were located in Xinle. Under the Tang Empire, in 639, the authorities of Hojia County moved to its current administrative center.

Under the Ming Empire, in 1377, Hojia County was annexed to Xinxiang County, but in 1380 it was re-formed.

Pingyuan Province was established in August 1949, and these places are part of the Xingxiang (新乡 专区) Special Region of Pingyuan Province. On November 30, 1952, Pingyuan Province was disbanded, and the Xinxiang Special Region became part of the Henan Province. In 1960, Hojia County was annexed to Xinxiang City, but was recreated in 1961. In 1967, Xinxiang Special District was renamed Xinxiang County (新乡 地区).

In 1986, Xinxiang County and Xinxiang City were disbanded, and Xinxiang City District was formed.
