Shanghai ( Kaz. Shanghai ) - a large area of Aktobe , located in the north-west of the city.

Probably, the name of the district appeared from the Kazakh expression “ shaңқai tүske dejn” - “ you will get there before lunch”, because Shanghai is located at a considerable distance from the then city center [1]
Shanghai is predominantly built up with single-story residential buildings and cottages, the number of multi-storey buildings is growing every year. There are 35 streets in the district [2] . Only the central streets of the district have asphalt coverage and lighting. The eastern border of the district is Maresyeva Street, the southern - Patsayeva Street, and in the west the district borders on Sankibay Batyr Avenue. In Shanghai, there are the AZHS stadium, the Rauan kindergarten, and the Yukon Medical Center.
In 2008, 48 km of city streets were repaired in Aktobe, including Pozharsky and Zhubanov Brothers streets in Shanghai. In 2009, the streets of Kazangap, Metallurgists and Ryskulov underwent repair [3] .
On October 8, 2014, city deputies sent for consideration to Astana an updated master plan for the development of the city (the previous one was adopted in 2006), according to which Shanghai and other areas of the city will be identified as reconstruction zones [4] .
