Baker was born in Fort Knox, Kentucky, and began her career with performances in Broadway musicals [4] . On screen, she made her debut in the 1985 film “ Patron, ” and in subsequent years continued to play small roles in other films. She achieved the greatest success thanks to her work on television, where her mother played in the NBC sitcom “ Freaks and nuts ” (1999-2000). She also appeared in Sex and the City , Law and Order , Law and Order: Special Corps , All My Children , A Good Wife , In View , Gotham , and Madame Secretary of State ". Since 2012, Baker began playing a minor role as Lina Dunham 's mother in the HBO series Girls , which earned her two nominations for the TV Critics Choice Award [5] .
Since 1990, Baker has been married to actor Dylan Baker [6] .
