Garland, Beverly

Beverly Garland ( born Beverly Garland , October 17, 1926 - December 5, 2008) is an American actress and entrepreneur who has played more than two hundred roles in her career. Garland is also well known for her Beverly Garland's Holiday Inn, which she built in North Hollywood in 1972 [4] .

Life and career

Garland was born in Santa Cruz, California, and made her debut on the big screen in the 1950 movie Dead on Arrival . During the 1950s, she achieved success thanks to the play of tough and fearless women in films of category "B" [5] . She played leading roles in three 1956 films: Swamp Women, Shooter, and It Captured the World . The next two years played a central role in the groundbreaking syndicated series Bait, which went down in television history as the first police drama with a woman in the lead role [5] . For the role of a patient with leukemia in the TV series Medic, Garland was nominated for an Emmy Award in 1955 [6] .

In the 1960s, Garland was most active on television, where she appeared in dozens of diverse shows, including Smoke from the Barrel and The Fugitive . In the years 1964-1965, she starred with Bing Crosby in the ABC sitcom Bing Crosby Show, which was closed after one season. From 1969 to 1972, she starred in the CBS sitcom "My Three Sons", playing the second wife of Fred McMurray [5] . After its completion, Garland spent the next ten years playing guest roles in The Mary Tyler Moore Show , Dr. Marcus Welby , Charlie's Angels , Spouses Hart , Flamingo Road , Private Magnum , and Hotel ". From 1983 to 1987, she played the mother of the heroine Kate Jackson in the CBS series Scarecrow and Mrs. King. In addition, she played mothers in the series “Mary Hartman, Mary Hartman”, “ Remington Steel ”, “ Lois and Clark: New Adventures of Superman ” and “ Seventh Heaven ” [5] . In 1983, she was awarded a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame [6] .

Garland was married three times and has four children from her last marriage. In 1972, she and her husband built the Beverly Garland's Holiday Inn and remained an active member of his board until her death. The hotel was later managed by her son. They also built a hotel in Sacramento, but sold it in the mid-1980s [5] .

Garland died in her 1959 home in the Hollywood Hills area. A memorial service was held at her hotel, where several hundred people were present. Garland House was sold in May 2010 for $ 1.865 million. [7]
